Redspot T&Cs at a glance

Accepted forms of payment

Redspot accepts Amex, Mastercard, and Visa credit cards and Mastercard and Visa debit cards with the condition that the cardholder name matches the name on the Rental Agreement. Redspot does not accept savings debit cards or cash.

Credit card processing fees vary and are based on the merchant fee imposed by the customer’s own credit card bank at the time of payment — this varies from bank to bank. The fee will be displayed on the point of sale device at time of payment.

Additional fees

Redspot may levy an additional charge for any of the following (though not limited to) cases:

  • Additional drivers

  • Child seats

  • Cleaning fee

  • Snow pass

  • Young driver

Additional driver

Additional drivers attract a base fee of $11.39 per day, however this is subject to location fees by location. The charge for additional drivers is not capped. Note that any additional nominated driver, as with the primary driver, must have a full drivers licence and be present when the vehicle is collected at the beginning of the rental period.

Age restrictions

The minimum age for renting a hire car with Redspot is 21 years old, and there is no maximum age specified. Drivers between the ages of 21 to 24 are only permitted to drive an economy, compact or intermediate sedan, or an economy, compact or intermediate sports utility vehicle (SUV).

Animals

Redspot does not allow animals in their rental vehicles.

Cancellations

If you cancel your Redspot booking through a no show, or even with prior notice, depending on the payment method selected, there may be a cancellation charge applied.

Child seats and GPS

Redspot can supply child and booster seats for fixed additional fee, but it is the responsibility of the renter to check and ensure any child safety seats are fitted correctly and legally prior to commencing the rental. You may install your own child safety seat or capsule of any type in a Redspot vehicle at your own risk.

Credit and debit card surcharges

Redspot applies a surcharge for credit card payments equivalent to that charged by the cardholder’s bank. This charge varies depending on the credit card and bank concerned.

Damage to/loss of rental vehicle

In the unfortunate event of an accident:

  • If there are injured people, contact emergency services first.

  • Contact Redspot with relevant information including the licence plate, make and model, colour (if known), nature of fault, precise location of vehicle, contact number, and whereabouts of keys.

  • Prepare a written accident/damage report

  • Submit the report to Redspot.

Digital licences

Redspot accepts digital licenses from both domestic and international drivers. Customers presenting an international license will be required to produce their passport on arrival.

Driving in snow

Redspot allows the driving of their rental vehicles above the snow line on the condition that Snow Cover has been purchased, the appropriate equipment (such as snow chains) is used, and it is considered safe to drive in the region impacted by snow.

Driving licence requirements

To rent a hire car in Australia, Redspot requires that any driver has a current drivers licence, in English, that is valid for the type of vehicle being rented, and that has been held for at least one year.

Learner drivers, restricted drivers and drivers with less than 12-months’ experience as a licenced driver are not permitted.

Provisional licences are accepted if they have been held for at least one year, but an additional charge may be levied, and drivers with a provisional licence are only permitted to drive an economy, compact or intermediate sedan, or an economy, compact or intermediate sports utility vehicle (SUV).

Should the licence be in a language other than English, Redspot will accept a certified translation in English or an International Driving Permit. Customers presenting an international license will be required to produce their passport on arrival.

Driving restrictions

Redspot prohibits using its vehicles in ways that risk damage, violate the law, or breach safety standards. This includes reckless driving, driving under the influence, using the wrong fuel, or ignoring warning lights and signals. Causing damage to the roof, undercarriage, windscreen line, or from overloading, towing improperly, or attaching unauthorised items is not permitted and driving in a manner that causes these types of damage can impact on coverage. Off-road driving, driving through water, or entering car parks with low clearance is also banned.

Only authorised drivers may operate the vehicle, and it must not be used for racing, carrying passengers or cargo for payment, or committing unlawful acts. Smoking, fitting unauthorised equipment, or driving in restricted or unsafe areas such as beaches, and fire trails is not allowed. Where driving in snowy regions is permitted, snow chains must be fitted and adjusted properly, and hubcaps removed to avoid damage. Repairs require prior written approval from Redspot.

Improper use may void coverage and loss damage waivers and leave the renter liable for the entire costs of any damage. Please see the Rental Agreement for detailed coverage on prohibited uses and driving restrictions for Redspot rental vehicles.
